The Rise of the Sexy, Muscle-Bound, Bodice-Ripping Costume Drama

Interesting Jezebel article about the trend to sexualize men more and adding in, what was often absent in the source material, sexual situations. As a historical romance genre reader, I find myself bemoaning the lack of actual historical elements and the getting down and dirty immediately format that seems to be emerging more. Visually, I can see male discomfort with being on the end of the female gaze (sorry, no sympathy for that one bros) but as it is discussed in the comments, immediately labeling it as "low-brow", is some patriarchy b.s.

A lot of thoughts and back and forth on this one.
